Greg Dyke is to deliver the opening speech at Leaders in Football, the world’s premium football business event, taking place for the sixth time on 9 and 10 October at Chelsea FC.
Dyke, the newly appointed Chairman of The Football Association, will look back at his first few months in office and cast forward to the challenges facing the organisation. The FA is marking its 150th birthday in October, with The FA Chairman’s keynote address at Leaders promising to be a key moment in what will be a busy month of anniversary celebrations.
The Stamford Bridge summit will be one of Dyke’s first public engagements since his appointment as FA Chairman this summer with 1,000 football industry stakeholders from around the world due to be in attendance. He will talk about his vision for the future of English football as it marks its contribution to a century and a half of the only true global game.
In confirming his attendance, Dyke said: “I am really looking forward to Leaders in Football and the chance to talk with people from across football, as well as from the wider sporting world. A key part of my first few months at The FA will be to listen to what other people have to say and share ideas. Leaders will be a great platform to do just that.
“I am also looking forward to putting Wembley Stadium and St. George’s Park in the spotlight and talking about what they mean for the future of the English game. The fact it is also our 150th anniversary month means we can consider the past, while looking at how we can develop in future – particularly our longstanding commitment to supporting the grassroots.”
Dyke has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in sport and media. The former Director General of the BBC has played a key role in revolutionising digital television most notably for introducing four new digital television stations, five new digital radio stations, the BBC’s first interactive television services and the start of Freeview during his management tenure at the BBC.
His high-profile broadcasting career, which includes Chief Executive positions with LWT Group, Pearson Television and Channel 5, has made him one of the most prominent leaders in the industry. Dyke also played a major role in the changing media landscape in sport whilst he was at both ITV and BBC investing heavily in rights fees to bring sport to millions of fans and is a former Director of Manchester United and, more recently, non-Executive Chairman of Brentford Football Club.
Dyke joins an ever growing list of world class speakers committing to the program, including Andrea Agnelli, President of Juventus FC, Sir Martin Sorrell, CEO, WPP Group, Ünal Aysal, President of Galatasaray SK, Peter Siemsen, President of Fluminense FC and Luis Alvaro, President of Santos FC. 1,000 senior decision-makers linked to Clubs, Leagues, Associations, Federations and Brands will be in attendance over the two day making it a unique and high level networking environment.
