Leaders in Football, the world's most exclusive football business event, taking place for the second time at Chelsea FC on 7th and 8th October 2009, has announced that Lord Brian Mawhinney, the respected Independent Chairman of The Football League and Deputy Chairman of England's 2018 World Cup Bidding team, will deliver a keynote address to the 1,000 delegates attending.
With the challenging economic conditions stretching the gap even further between the richer and poorer clubs, Lord Mawhinney will set out his plans to tackle the evolving crisis in order to ensure a sustainable future for professional football.
Lord Mawhinney has been independent Chairman of the Football League since 2003 has played a major role in its resurgence and continued popularity. In 2004 he oversaw a re-organisation of the League structure, renaming the former Division One as the Football League Championship and has continued to champion the importance of a strong professional league structure in England.
A former Cabinet Minister and major power broker in British politics, his peerage continues his extremely close political ties to the English political system.
Mawhinney says 'I would be honoured to be involved in the second Leaders in Football and am happy to speak within the important theme of managing the wealth gap in football'.
Mawhinney's appointment to the main conference stage at Leaders in Football follows other high profile names such as Jeremy Darroch, CEO of BSkyB and Jack Warner the President of Concacaf.
